Mobile Websites

60-70% of Smartphone users surf the internet with their Smartphones. A study concluded that 88% of people who do a search on their mobile phone take action within 24 hours. This new and expanding group of Smart Phone users are the next generation of consumers and it's important that you do everything possible to reach them and make their experience enjoyable. A mobile site could be the key to winning a new client and gaining an edge over your competition.

If you've viewed a website on a smart phone you know that the screens are tiny, they are slow to load, and a lot of website features aren't supported (slideshows, hover menus, and many CSS style features). You spend a lot of time scrolling and trying to navigate, and eventually end up frustrated and leave the site.

Mobile websites are becoming more and more popular and will soon be 'a must have'. A phone site is a shortened and simplified version of your current website. If someone is searching for your services or products on a phone, chances are pretty good they're out on the road and want to find the information as quick and easy as possible. When your site comes up, they have to be able to see the phone number and how to find what they're looking for right away. The service or product information should be easy to read and give them the quick answer they're looking for. There should also be important information like phone number, hours and location. Mobile sites aren't for fluff, they are for grits. They should load quickly and only have necessary photos.

There are a few different options for directing users to a mobile site. Our favorite option is to use Tera-Wurfl. Tera-Wurfl is a script that connects to a database where all the latest mobile devices are indexed. It compares the user's device capabilities to determine whether or not the user should be redirected. If it is determined that the user should be redirected to the mobile site, it is a seamless transition. The Tera-Wurfl option also eliminates the possibility that someone with a tablet device (IPad, Nook, etc.) gets redirected to your mobile site when there is no need. The tablets are large enough to comfortably view your main site.

Mobile search is a new buzz word. Basically you want to continue to market your regular website. Mobile phones use very similar search results. So as long as your regular website comes up in a search, the user will end up on your mobile site. For more information on Search Engine Marketing, click here.
